SpiderOak, one of the leaders in zero-trust cybersecurity solutions for space and mission-critical edge operations, recently announced the appointment of Thomas Di Giacomo to the SpiderOak Board of Advisors. Di Giacomo brings over two decades of experience in open source, operating systems, and embedded systems strategy, and currently serves as Chief Technology and Product Officer at SUSE, a global leader in secure, enterprise-grade open source software.

At SpiderOak, Di Giacomo will provide strategic guidance around the application of open-source technologies and operating systems for compute at scale, with a focus on accelerating commercial adoption and deployment within embedded systems. His appointment reflects SpiderOak’s growing momentum in delivering resilient, scalable solutions for both defense and commercial edge environments.

“Joining SpiderOak’s advisory board is an exciting opportunity to support the company’s expansion into commercial markets,” said Thomas Di Giacomo. “As organizations move further toward decentralized infrastructure, SpiderOak’s zero-trust approach stands out for its ability to secure data and operations in the most complex, distributed environments. I’m eager to help drive this next phase of innovation.”

In his current role, Di Giacomo leads the Office of the CTO, product, solution, and engineering. He oversees SUSE’s full product portfolio—including SUSE Linux Suite, SUSE Rancher, SUSE AI Suite and SUSE Edge Suite—and helps shape the company’s long-term innovation roadmap. Prior to this, he has held leadership roles at Swisscom and other major organizations. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Geneva and is based in Switzerland.

“Thomas is a globally respected technology leader with deep expertise in open source innovation, edge computing, and secure, mission-critical software systems,” said Dave Pearah, CEO of SpiderOak. “His track record of driving large-scale adoption of open source infrastructure software will be instrumental as we accelerate the commercial expansion of our zero-trust platform for next-generation edge environments.”

SpiderOak’s platform applies zero-trust principles across space and edge systems—ensuring authentication, authorization, and encryption for every data interaction, even in degraded or denied environments. The company’s collaboration with U.S. defense and commercial space partners has advanced the development of secure communications architectures, especially within highly distributed networks such as the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA).

Di Giacomo’s addition to the SpiderOak advisory board signals the company’s continued focus on scalable, open, and secure software strategies for the most demanding operational environments.
