Pillar Biosciences, a global manufacturer and provider of next-generation sequencing (NGS) kitted solutions, recently announced the appointments of Todd Christian and Yann Echelard, Ph.D., to its Board of Directors. The appointments were made in connection with the company’s latest strategic financing, which closed on July 31, 2026. Proceeds from the financing will support Pillar’s joint NGS automation strategies and advance its IVD development and commercialization efforts.

Todd Christian is Senior Vice President, Services, Arrays and Genomics Access at Illumina, where he leads global growth initiatives across the company’s worldwide services, arrays, laboratory services, proteomics, and clinical businesses. A seasoned life sciences executive with more than 25 years of industry experience, he has built and scaled high-growth businesses, expanded access to genomic technologies, and guided organizations at the intersection of research, diagnostics, and precision medicine.
Mr. Christian brings to the Board extensive experience in corporate strategy, commercialization, business transformation, and strategic partnerships. His leadership in expanding access to advanced genomic technologies, together with the longstanding collaboration between Illumina and Pillar to advance next-generation sequencing–based diagnostics and companion diagnostics, provides valuable perspective as Pillar continues to expand its in vitro diagnostics portfolio and biopharmaceutical partnerships. Mr. Christian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Hamilton College.

Yann Echelard, Ph.D., is a Partner at ORI Capital with more than 30 years of experience across biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals, including research, clinical development, manufacturing, corporate development and commercial management. Most recently, he has served as an Operating Partner at Flagship Pioneering, where he was the founding President of Ring Therapeutics, Cellarity, Laronde (now Sail Biomedicines), ProFound Therapeutics, Ampersand Biomedicines, as well as several stealth biotech companies in the Flagship Pioneering portfolio. Prior to joining Flagship, Dr, Echelard was President and CEO of rEVO Biologics (successor company of Genzyme Transgenics). Dr. Echelard currently serves as a director of TG Therapeutics and as an advisor to the Gene and Cell Therapy Institute (GCTI) of Mass General Brigham Dr. Echelard received his Ph.D. from Université de Montréal and completed post-doctoral research at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology, and Harvard University.
