The NHP Foundation (NHPF), a leading national not-for-profit developer of quality affordable housing, announced the appointment of Megan Carras as Vice President of Fundraising and Communications, a new position for the organization. Carras joins NHPF’s New York office, bringing more than a decade of experience in community development finance, nonprofit fundraising, communications and research.

Her experience building funding partnerships and directing strategic communications will support NHPF’s mission to preserve and create sustainable, service-enriched affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families and seniors.

“Megan brings a strong record of connecting funders and partners to investments that strengthen communities,” said Eric Price, President and CEO of The NHP Foundation. “Her fundraising expertise and ability to communicate our impact will help us execute our strategic plan, building support to expand quality affordable housing and Operation Pathways’ vital onsite resident services.”

Prior to joining NHPF, Carras spent six years at the Washington Area Community Investment Fund (WACIF), most recently serving as Chief Development and Communications Officer and Head of Sustainability. She spearheaded fundraising strategies that generated more than $25 million in revenue and secured new funding partners, including Wells Fargo, CareFirst, Starbucks and JPMorgan Chase.

Carras also led the capital campaign for the Anacostia Arts Center Redevelopment project and directed strategic communications and marketing, serving as an advisor to WACIF’s CEO, executive team and board. She authored the Sustainable Entrepreneurship Report and supported the design of an innovative green lending product, connecting community development with social equity and environmental goals.

Earlier in her career, Carras served as Associate Director and Senior Grant Writer at Elevate, a nonprofit fundraising consulting firm, where she supported clients across affordable housing, environmental, education and other mission-driven sectors.

“Affordable housing provides a foundation for stability and opportunity,” said Carras. “”I am excited to join NHPF and engage donors and partners in creating quality affordable homes and supporting Operation Pathways’ work to help residents achieve greater stability, opportunity and independence. I look forward to sharing the stories and results that inspire people to invest in stronger communities.”

Carras holds a PhD in Geography and Sustainable Development from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, an MA in Environmental Management from Harvard University and a BA in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. She completed the Bridgespan Executive Leadership Accelerator in 2025 and has published on housing, sustainable entrepreneurship and community development climate finance.
