Tetrate, enabler of rapid, compliant and profitable AI success for regulated industries and governments, has joined Fintech Open-Source Foundation (FINOS). The company is collaborating with the FINOS community to harmonize prospective AI governance frameworks between FINOS and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) for highly regulated environments, such as government and financial services. FINOS is a part of the Linux Foundation AI Governance framework, with a mission to foster the adoption of open-source software, standards and collaborative development practices in financial services.
Many organizations—especially those in regulated environments—struggle with the responsible and safe adoption of AI at scale due to a lack of clear guidelines and standards, often leading to inaction. Tetrate aims to break this adoption stalemate by harmonizing major AI governance standards which are often difficult to understand or contradictory. Tetrate knows how to solve this type of problem because it was a major contributor with NIST in aligning microservice standards for financial services. This resulted in Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) standards and accelerated the advent of technical solutions that meet these standards.

Tetrate has already provided important control mappings between the FINOS AI Governance framework and a range of widely recognized industry standards. These include the OWASP LLM Top 10, OWASP Machine Learning Top 10, ISO 42001 and NIST SP 800-53. Grounded in this existing industry guidance, the FINOS AI Governance framework becomes relatable and actionable for practitioners.
Tetrate has worked closely with NIST in collaborative research on novel access control and subsequently in developing standards for secure application communication, the definition of zero trust at runtime and most recently in the first API security Special Publication. The company’s contributions advance and standardize best practices for secure microservice and cloud deployments across many industries. FFIEC extensively cites the Special Publications Tetrate helped author.
“Regulated industries and governments are at a crossroads with regard to AI adoption,” said David Wang, head of product management and product marketing at Tetrate. “As these compliance-driven organizations build AI to improve end-user experiences and drive greater responsiveness and efficiency, they are discovering that the lack of clear, widely accepted governance frameworks is a critical barrier to scaling. It’s that barrier that we’re working with FINOS to knock down, drawing on the similar work we’ve successfully delivered with NIST.”

“We are excited to welcome Tetrate as an important new contributor to the AI Governance Framework,” said Gabriele Columbro, executive director of FINOS. “Their extensive work with other standards bodies such as NIST and open-source communities like CNCF not only has the potential to accelerate the framework, but it’s a real bonus as we move to implementing AI controls in the newly launched Common Controls for AI Services Initiative.”
